What is Life Coaching?
There isn’t any one definition to Life Coaching. Let’s begin with addressing what Life Coaching is not! It is not therapy or counseling, it is not mentorship or consultancy and it is definitely not an expensive variation of an agony aunt!
Very simply, Life Coaching is a partnership between a coach and a client where the coach helps the client to explore, discover, create and experience a variety of options to reach their goal(s). Often times, many of us tend to get stuck with a unidirectional approach or way of thinking due to our comfort zone, fears, beliefs, patterns, lack of awareness of something else. A life coach acts like a catalyst to provide the client different perspectives and helps them move from where they are to where they want to be.
What does a Life Coach really do?
- Listen, observe and help the client identify and create specific and measurable goals. The goals could be related to work/profession, personal growth, health and well being, relationships.
- Provide a structure, support and tools to the client to achieve their goals and address any obstacles and challenges a client may encounter along the way.
- Empowers the client to tap into their own resources by way of asking solution based questions.
- Create accountability and provide feedback.
